Do your people make you feel good?
“Do not bring people in your life who weigh you down. And trust your instincts … good relationships feel good. They feel right. They don’t hurt. They’re not painful. That’s not just with somebody you marry, but it’s with the friends that you choose. It’s with the people you surround yourself with.” ~ Michelle Obama
I want you to take a minute and think of the people you surround yourself with. Your partner. Your friends. Your family. Your co-workers. Your clients. All of the people who receive the gift of your time and energy. Imagine them standing in a circle around you right now.
What does it feel like to be standing in the center of that circle?
Do you feel light or heavy?
Do you feel warm or cold?
What else are you noticing?
The point here is to be curious. I am not asking you to judge or criticize these feelings. Actually, I'm asking you not to. I just want you to be aware of what you are noticing. If you would like to feel something different, I invite you to offer yourself the permission to change. Decide today that you are going to be intentional about who you give your time and energy to. Know that there will be some waves as you shift the energy of your circle. That's ok. You are allowed to change and to feel the way that you want to feel.
Now I’d like you to take a moment and think about the people who inspire you. The people who make you feel good. Know that you are not limited to having a personal connection with these people in order to gain a better understanding of how you want to feel.
For example, one person that gives me that feel good feeling is Pink. I love her boldness. Her compassion. And I f*cking LOVE the speech she gave about her daughter at the VMAs last year! (Click here to watch it now)
I don’t need to know Pink personally to know that I want to surround myself with people who have her kind of spirit. An energy that lifts me up and inspires me to stay true to my own self. A shining light that says it’s ok to stand out and to be different.
Today’s message is short and sweet for a reason. I don’t need to load you up with a bunch of words in order to get this point across. I am asking you to consciously choose to surround yourself with people that make you feel good.
Find your tribe.
Show up for them.
Love them and let them know it!
Be the kind of friend that you need and trust me when I say it will come back to you tenfold. There is one other thing that I’d like to ask of you. Think of one person that you know who inspires you or makes you feel good. I want you to reach out to that person and let them know that you appreciate them. If doing this brings tears, know that you are on the right path. Send this message as a gift from your heart and be unattached to receiving anything in return.
