The power of journaling for self-discovery

When I reflect on the tools that have helped me become the person I am today, I find journaling, meditation and coaching at the top of my list. I share them in that order because that is the order in which they introduced themselves into my life. Over the next couple weeks, I’ll be sharing a little more about my journey with each practice and the personal and spiritual development growth you may experience as a result of working with each them. Journaling has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. What started out as a place to vent has turned into a place where I have become my own best friend. My journal started as a safe space for me to express myself before I learned how to trust anyone else with the thoughts that were strangling my headspace. It is what has allowed me to process my pain and come to peace with my past. My journal has also given me amazing insight into where I can grow because it is unapologetic in showing me the places where I am stuck. The pages of the first journal that is still in my collection (started in 2004) contain some really intense writing. Moments when I was filled with so much anger that the words don’t even look like words. I can see the ripples and wrinkles were my tears splashed onto the pages. My early journals were places where I could release everything that I was holding back in my life. All of the things I wanted to say but didn’t have the courage to say out loud. All of the things I wish I would’ve done but was too afraid to. When I read the pages of those journals, I can’t help but send love to that intensely hurting younger version of myself. I also send gratitude to my journaling practice because without it, I might still be stuck there. Compare my first journal to my latest one and you would think they were written by two completely different people. And in many ways, they are! My path has been filled with plenty of twists and turns and my journals have captured each and every one of them. Having a written history of my experience has been extremely helpful because it has allowed me to see what works for me and what doesn’t. It has also allowed me to be with the parts of myself that sometimes I’d rather forget. Journaling through my past has also given me the skills to intentionally create my future. In addition to processing my life experiences, my journal has created space to explore my dreams and desires. It is where I create my manifestations so they can eventually exist in the physical realm. I also use my journal to uncover the stories and beliefs that are blocking me from these manifestations. I have discovered how to ask myself better questions so that I can continue to grow into the person I was born to be. One of the greatest gifts my journaling has given to me is the ability to connect with my inner wisdom. By connecting to my intuition, I have found a greater sense of inner peace and ability to trust myself when I feel called to do uncomfortable things. My journal has also given me space to have beautiful channeled conversations with my Higher Self and Spirit Guides. Each and every one of the Monday Messages are born onto the pages of my journal before they make their way to your screen. I share this journey with you so that you can see the wide variety of ways journaling can serve. It can support you through the hard times and create space for your inspiration. It can help you connect to your own truth and remind you who you truly are. The best part is that it has the flexibility to respond to your changing needs and all the things life is going throw at you. Journaling is an incredibly powerful tool on the path of self-discovery. One that I cannot recommend enough. Are you feeling inspired to start a journaling practice? Are you curious about journaling but don’t know where to start?
